Coul Duee was born from humble beginnings, rooted in passion, creativity, and resilience. The very
first slides were crafted in a small garage using handmade tools. With no access to professional
equipment, I shaped my own needles from strong wire, carefully sharpening and piercing them by
hand to begin the crafting process.
The materials themselves carried deep meaning. Velvet was repurposed from my mother's headscarf,
known in isiXhosa as "ikhetsemiya," giving each piece a personal and cultural foundation. For
durability, I collected discarded car tyres and transformed them into long-lasting soles — a symbol of
innovation driven by necessity.
Leather was sourced from a small shop in Mthatha, owned by local Indian merchants. I would
purchase leftover pieces, turning them into handcrafted products that I sold within my community in
Buntingville. Every item was made with care, precision, and a determination to create something
meaningful from limited resources.
As the vision grew, I made the decision to travel to Johannesburg to access higher-quality materials
and connect with larger manufacturers. This marked a turning point — from small-scale craftsmanship
to a broader pursuit of excellence.
Today, Coul Duee stands as a reflection of that journey: from garage beginnings to a brand built on
heritage, innovation, and ambition. Each piece tells a story of where we come from — and where we
are going.
